With these materials my students will be able to have coping strategies to overcome their behavioral and emotional challenges. Hands-on materials are needed for a "calm down area" so that my students can utilize this area as an educational break. This project is being used to give my classroom a “homey” feel for my students.
On this list the main item is a classroom rug. This is being used so that my students can all work together on the carpet and participate in shared readings!
Borders and a classroom calendar is on the list as this will give the classroom a welcoming feeling while allowing my students to gain a better understanding of time and months. Other items include fidget/stress balls, building set, and fidgets for seat chairs. These items are being used to accommodate my students’ sensory needs. In the calm down area these items will be available for their use. This will be huge for behaviors prevention! This area will increase the amount of instructional time that the students will receive through prevention of acting out behaviors. Many of the students in my classroom struggle to understand their emotions and need support in this area. Having a safe place where the students can go would be very beneficial to their special education needs. Please help to fund my project!
