This carpet will be the central gathering place in our classroom. It will set the tone for cooperative learning as we come together to learn and share ideas. It will also add to the flexible seating in my classroom by allowing the children an alternative to sitting at their tables all day.
Children need to have opportunities to choose where they will work and with whom. By having a large area rug that is inviting, those children who need a change of position or location can continue to work. This also adds to their sense of community as they take turns sitting in different areas and working together.
The whimsical nature of this particular carpet will inspire some creative thought as they make connections between the letters and the pictures.
