Many students at my school and in my class do not have books at home to read. In school, students often are exposed to non-fiction books and articles. I want to build a classroom library where students have options to choose books that are of interest to them. Students will have time set aside in class for independent reading and will also have a chance to checkout one of the books from the classroom library.
I want students to not be afraid of reading but to embrace it and use it as a skill that will help them now and in their future. Reading is truly a wonderful thing and I always like to expose my students to one of the best authors that was introduced to me when I was younger. Dr. Seuss said, "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."
