In my 12 years experience teaching kindergarten, my students learn best from picture books that they can connect to. I chose different titles that touch on those character traits I want my kindergarteners to possess: kindness, compassion, perseverance, respect, and love. My goal is to use these books during my morning meetings as a springboard for classroom discussions and social/emotional activities. I find that many young learners today have difficulty managing big emotions. Through this project and by building a social/emotional classroom library, I can create a safe place to practice these skills and in turn, make my students better leaders of tomorrow.
