Having a variety of learning materials = improvement in student learning!
Not everybody learns the same way.
Students will use the whiteboards during math workshop. They will bring them to the carpet and work out practice problems. They can also use them to work out their math tasks and computer tasks. During reading, students will respond to the test they are reading on the whiteboards. Now, they have the option to write in their journals and on sticky notes, but whiteboards would be something different and engaging. Whiteboards will also be used in small group reading/math strategy groups. Students will bring them to meet with the teacher and do remediation work.
Students are able to sit around the room during independent reading time and math rotations. They usually have to bring something to write on. Having clipboards, will speed up transition time and help keep materials organized. Students tend to loose materials when they do not have them in a secure spot.
Stools will allow students to have the option to sit in a way that best suits them, as long as they are working. This allows students to experience different environments to learn in and help them determine what works best for them. The stools will be added to the flexible seating options I already have in the classroom.
