These books will be used for "Close Reads" in my classroom. This means we will read each book multiple times for different purposes. The first day, we will read for enjoyment and to introduce the theme of the week. The second day, we will focus on vocabulary. The third day, we will read for better comprehension by asking and answering questions. The fourth day, we will retell what happened in the book.
The students will get a deep understanding of each book through multiple readings and discussions with their peers. We will also do a craft for each book along with other activities to emphasize that week's theme.
Once we finish reading each book as a class, it will be placed on the bookshelf in our reading corner. Kindergartners love to retell and reread books they have heard! This will give them the opportunity to continue to read and explore each book even after the formal instruction of that book is complete.
