My students attend elementary school in Paterson, NJ which is a very large, urban district. They are second graders who are eager to come to school and learn. Paterson is a high poverty school district and my students are faced with lots of challenges every single day. We lack supplies due to the amount of funding we receive. Our teacher budget to order items for our students has been $50 a school year, for many years. There are limited things to purchase for almost 50 second graders with that amount, which is why teachers willingly open up their own wallets to purchase necessary supplies every year. My students continue to give their all each and every day despite the challenges they face and become very excited when they accomplish their classroom goals. It's truly rewarding to watch them grow as learners throughout the school year!
