Many of my students come from busy families that do not have a lot of money or time to help their child continue learning at home. Parents work multiple jobs to make ends meet. With so many odds running against them, my students still love coming to school. For many it is a safe place, where they begin to open their eyes to the world around them.
Our school is an International Baccalaureate school, which means we learn what it takes to be an internationally minded person. They take on challenges to help others in the community and around the world need, even though they don't have a lot themselves. They are passionate about learning, which makes my job easy.
Like many districts, we are dealing with millions of dollars in cut backs. This means there is no money for supplies or books for the classroom. Our reading program is a textbook, but knowing the treasure that a chapter book can hold how can I not fight for them. With your help, we can grow their passion for reading.
