As the new school year approaches, I have been thinking about how my kindergarten classroom learning space could be more student centered. My classroom currently has typical rectangle tables and chairs. When thinking about learning spaces I think about times I need to complete work, read, or grade papers. We all have a preference. I know what my work space would need to look and feel like when I’m working or reading, I can tell you right now my preference would not be a hard chair sitting at a rectangular desk with people surrounding me. Students know what type of learning space they prefer as well. Flexible seating will give my students options to choose a workspace that suits their learning needs.
