I chose several classic authors of poetry, as well as, poetry books that reflect diversity to meet the needs of all my students. My students will learn that there are many different types of poems and that not all poems have to rhyme.
By immersing my students in poetry, my goal is for them to fall in love with this genre and to be able to express themselves through poetry.
I believe that being exposed to Robert Frost, Maya Angelou, Edgar Allen Poe, etc. will allow my students to use all of their senses to make sense of poetry and that they will be able to determine the main idea of poems and create some poetry of their own.
