By providing my students with novels that are relatable and controversial, my students will be able to connect with their reading and deliver rich conversation over the debatable themes exposed in their texts. By offering book clubs, students are able to choose and read which text interest them the most but they are also able to conversate with others so that they can express their feelings and reactions towards the text. Many of these novels deal with current social topics like gun violence, social injustice, invasion of privacy, suicide, hardships of adolescence, and sexuality...all which are important topics for 9th grade students.
