Students will study American artist Dale Chihuly and his glass artwork. They will view other glass artists and learn how glass is created. Students will observe the transparent and organic characteristics of glass and become aware of how it is used in creating interesting and fascinating artwork.
By funding this project, my students will be able to imitate the qualities of glass sculpture without any of the dangers of working with the glass medium. They will create radial designs using colored permanent marker on clear plastic plates. After their artwork is complete their plates will be baked in an oven at a low heat level which will melt and transform their plate art into organically shaped sculptures.
