This is my first year teaching, and I have been given the incredible opportunity to teach my most beloved grade - First Grade! I have been eagerly purchasing the many resources which create for an effective learning environment, and while it is my joy to serve my students out of my own pocket, the amount it costs to fund the classroom my students deserve certainly makes things very tight for me. I have already purchased hundreds of books for my students' classroom library and have spent hundreds of dollars on these books, but I'm looking for an effective way to display and organize them. I have been searching tirelessly for shelving that is sturdy (so it will last) and affordable (given I have spent so much already on books and other classroom supplies). Unfortunately, this has been a big challenge. The shelving I have selected for this project meets my criteria for shelving that is sturdy and that will last for many years, but clearly does not meet the criteria when it comes to affordability. As such, I am humbly requesting assistance with this component of creating the classroom library/environment I feel my students deserve. I don't know about you, but few things compare to the excitement and joy the classroom library brings that I experienced as a child. Not only can a well-designed classroom library get children excited about reading, it ensures they have access to one of the biggest contributors to their overall academic success - reading. Developing and supporting reading abilities, even in First Grade, will affect students for their entire life. With the help of your financial support towards my project, I will be able to create a classroom library that will lead my students to become excited about reading!
