Last school year my students and I explored flexible seating and all of us were excited with the results! This project will allow me to expand on the seating options available to my students. Yoga balls were often the student's favorite seat choice, but sometimes literally rolled out from under them!
Flexible seating allows critical thinking, creativity, communication and collaboration to occur naturally. It encourages students to explore where they feel most relaxed and productive. This will lower the anxiety many students feel when learning a second language.
A reading station with ECR4Kids SoftZone Kids Gaming Rockers, an Avalon Rectangular Faux Leather Storage Ottoman and HomePop ottoman will make the area feel more "homey" and encourage them to find a special spot. The Amazon low back computer chairs will be utilized at the computer station to give the students a sense of how it feels to work in an office setting and to provide comfort while completing independent work. Gaiam Balance Yoga Ball Chairs and other options such as swivel task chairs, will help students already struggling with English to feel more comfortable when expressing themselves. I would like to try using a Kore Wobble stool next year to gauge the effectiveness in my classroom for possible wider use the following year.
Students need to feel in control of their learning and with your help I can create an inviting, flexible environment that increases student engagement.
