Personalized learning is the focus of our school, and with that comes the freedom our students have to choose where and how they learn. Currently our students have rug space, clipboards, yoga balls and some scoop chairs to choose from when they are working independently or with a group. However, adding wobble stools and wiggle seats would provide options for those sitting at tables or desks. It's not uncommon to see students leaning back in chairs or rocking them side to side, which is unsafe, simply because they crave movement. Research proves that providing flexible seating, movement option, and choice improves motivation and fosters engagement in the learning. Ultimately, the goal is to have students advocate for what they need to make their classroom a space where they can be creative and collaborative while providing them opportunities for movement. And at 2nd grade, movement is a huge part of our day! Last year we had one stool in our class and it was a popular choice among 36 students. Therefore, we are hoping Donors Choose can make this addition to our classroom a possibility and give our students even more seating options.
