One of my main jobs is to help students work to have control over their emotions and be respectful, safe friends. I would like to add materials to my room that will help my students calm down and regulate their emotions.
Many of the children I serve have a hard time de-escalating and need to a have quiet, safe space where they can calm down.
The items I am requesting would give my students opportunities to calm down, while engaging in problem solving activities. The Magnatiles and Legoes could be used to build and create while de-escalating and also as rewards for appropriate behaviors. The fidgit toys, rubix cube and stress balls could all be utilized by students who feel the need to calm down with a sensory item that they can manipulate. Last, many times when a child is having trouble following rules or controlling impulses it can be the result of hunger. Having snacks such as Cheez-it crackers and granola bars will allow me the opportunity to provide children with snacks when needed, so they can get back to important learning focused and ready.
