In my classroom we do literacy centers everyday. While I have a group reading at my table, another group is listening to books read aloud to further hear the modeling of good fluent reading. Although I have books and CD players for my students to listen to reading, the books are outdated and following apart and they CD players often run out of batteries.
Through the iPads, I would be able to download apps such as Epic that will provide high interest, engaging books for my students to listen to. Even students who are reading below grade level benefit and enjoy hearing exciting books that they may not be able to read on their own. Some of my students do not have access to lot of books at home so the more I can expose them to reading and texts, the more their reading will improve. In addition, the iPads will become a tool to build on their twenty first century skills needed in this quickly evolving technical world.
