For students with autism, having a sensory friendly environment allows them to spend more of their energy improving their academic and social skills. Having light filters makes the harsh classroom lighting more bearable and not overstimulating for students. Providing options for flexible seating helps them get the wiggles out while still remaining engaged in a task.
My goals is to provide an environment for my students that is not only safe and warm, but also inviting and encourages exploration and creativity. I want students to learn and grow in my class in a natural and age appropriate manner encouraged by play and peer interactions.
