Having students learn in an active setting will allow them an opportunity to move while learning about a healthy lifestyle. Students spend the majority of the day being asked to sit still for 40 minutes or more at a time. Giving my students several options while in a typical sit down and learn setting will help to keep them focused during this time. Students who are using the wobble chair and fidget kick bouncy chair bands will be able to "fidget" without being distracted and distracting others.
Studies show that movement plays a crucial role in retaining knowledge and improves focus.
The main goal of having this active seating is to keep students actively moving while learning in an environment which is traditionally a sit down and sit still environment. Telling students how important it is to be active and then asking the to sit still for long periods of time is not beneficial to their learning.
Adding Kore Patented WOBBLE Chair, cushions, a ball chair and additional fidget bands for desks will help more students in the classroom who don't need time to themselves in the sensory area. Using these items while sitting with peers allows them the distraction they crave without being a distraction. The stress balls, hand fidgets will be available to anyone working in the room.
We hope to reward students by motivating them to choose good behavior over bad behavior and by creating boundaries that children need, as reported by Healthy Children. Using the items in our room helps to relax them and feel in control.
