I believe in the importance of developing a love for reading in my students. One way to do this is to introduce my students to a topic that is highly interesting, the Revolutionary War. Students' imaginations will soar as they travel with lovable characters to an important and interesting part of our history. If each student had an individual book, it would allow them to follow along with the reader, improving their reading abilities and their ability to focus.
Many of my students do not have books at home, so a classroom set of books would be valued and cared for. With a class set of books, students will be able to improve many aspects of their reading skills. Students will be able to enhance their vocabulary, phonics and fluency skills while following along. If each student had a copy of the book, they could facilitate classroom discussions while practicing pulling information from the text and improving their comprehension.
The best way to improve students' reading abilities is to read more. A class set of books would allow students to practice reading in a variety of ways. The Revolutionary War is a popular topic among students and these books will increase students' knowledge of history in addition to their reading skills.
