Our staff is ready to welcome our students back to the school building after what seems to have been an eternity. We have invested countless hours of professional development on becoming effective online teachers. We have cleaned, sanitized, disinfected and safely spaced our students' desks. We have configured seating charts for two different groups of students in each of our classes. We are more than prepared for this transition.
Currently, we are not prepared for is providing easily accessible drinking water to our students throughout the day.
We would be able to fill this need and provide our students with easy access to drinking water with a water filling station! Due to our new health and safety guidelines, public schools now must shut off water fountains to prevent the further spread of COVID19. This means that we have to ask our students to bring their own water bottles already filled. If they want a refill, their only option is to use water from the bathroom faucet. Many water bottles will not fit under the faucet.
Plastic water bottles are a huge, accruing expense and create a tremendous amount of waste. Many teachers will spend their own money to provide students with bottled water. If we are unable to fill this need, teachers will yet again, dip into their own pockets to meet the needs of their students. Please be part of a movement at our school as we model environmentally friendly behavior and work to meet the basic needs of our student body.
