In my class, students make interactive journals to use as a resource both in and outside the classroom. We only have a classroom set of textbooks, so a journal is the best resource they have when studying or working on projects and assignments. When I teach, I use color to help students learn a new concept. Over the last couple of years, my students have started using my supplies to add color to their journals as well. We use colored paper to make foldables and guided notes. These items are glued or taped into the journal. Students like to show the steps in solving problems with markers and colored pencils. It helps them follow along and understand what steps were taken to solve a problem. We will use colored pencils to graph various functions. The colored pencils will help most when we graph systems of equations and inequalities. My students have to analyze two linear functions on the same coordinate plane. By having different colors for each linear function, they will be able to see the graphs clearly. Students use their journals daily and love to have the colored paper and graphics they create in class.
