These materials will help me provide learning experiences that incorporate an Orton-Gillingham style of direct instruction and activities, which research has proven to help struggling readers. Materials such as sand trays, index cards, popsicle sticks, and glitter gel baggies will provide kinesthetic opportunities for students to enhance their phonological awareness and decoding skills. Green and red folders assist students in organizing information on "green" (decodable) words and "red" (sight) words.
Cards, posters, manipulatives, and different types of writing utensils and mediums will be incorporated to actively engage all senses and promote reading success. By investing in my project, you will be helping to give essential reading skills to those who struggle most.
