Walking in the classroom door and having the opportunity to use morning work tubs is a wonderful way for kindergartners to start their day. Play based learning has been shown to teach community building and collaboration which enhances language skills. Having the opportunity to explore, especially in a small group setting, is especially important for English Language Learners and the acquisition of language skills.
Imagine starting off every day with an opportunity to play, socialize and learn.
Supporting this project will allow my students an opportunity to learn social skills, academic skills and language skills all while utilizing a play based environment. How wonderful for the children to be able to build with Tinker Toys, Legos and Magna Tiles (3D magnetic tiles for building). The critical thinking and problem solving skills that are acquired are priceless. The children will also increase their fine motor skills when using the tongs and lacing cards. This is especially important for children who haven't had the opportunity to use scissors or color much before coming to school. Thank you for considering my classroom. As a 20 year veteran kindergarten teacher, I know this will be a wonderful opportunity for my classroom for years to come.
