In their excitement to self-select texts, our students often push books to the backs of the library shelves instead of allowing them to rest their spines on the ends of the shelves for easy browsing. This often causes books to fall, be hidden and become inaccessible behind others. A book that can't be located is a book that can't be read.
An affordable and ingenious solution to this common library organizational dilemma is the acquisition of pool noodles! Soft, flexible, and unimposing, when positioned behind books at the back of shelves, they will served as a buffer preventing the texts from receding and rendering themselves lost or misplaced.
An added bonus is the time spent reordering shelves will be significantly decreased and can be better spent engaging with library patrons, literacy lesson design and implementation.
