Play is so important for children. They learn many social skills (sharing and cooperating for example), critical thinking skills, and creative thinking skills. The items on my project list will be the starter seeds for Morning Tubs.
When students come in first thing in the morning, instead of doing a paper "seatwork" activity, they will get a chance to build, explore, and create. These tubs will be shared among small groups and they will spend the first 5-10 minutes of the day exploring their tub. They will have a chance to build together and cooperate with each other to create something unique for that day. The Magna-Tiles will allow them to manipulate 2D shapes and create 3D objects to help with their fine motor skills and spatial skills. Using the Story Cubes, they will have a chance to create a short story for their writing journal. The Reading Rods will help them practice words they know. They will interact with each other and wake up their brains so they are excited for the rest of our day!
