Learning Centers, or stations, encourage critical thinking, imagination, problem-solving, and collaboration. Stations in the library give students ownership of their learning experiences and give their associations with books and inquiry a positive spin. In the library, they should experience activities and atmospheres that are different from their classrooms.
While Easton's learning centers will focus on Literature through books, connections with other subjects will also be made: Math (STEM activities), Social Studies (magazines, maps, various board games), Science (animal/nature studies, art projects, engineering with legos and other building material). Because of the open-ended quality of the resources, critical thinking will be encouraged. They will create their own knowledge, and in turn, feel a sense of agency and confidence in themselves. They will have Choice, Opportunities to work with others, and Paths to go deeper in their learning when they are ready for more.
