Having flexible seating in our classroom provides children the opportunity to make responsible choices which teaches them higher-order thinking skills. They learn that their seat choice is dependent on their current task and what works best for them. By having various flexible seating choices, including wobble chairs and stadium seats, students can quickly and easily pair up, work in small groups, or work alone. I have noticed that students are more engaged and productive when they are given more control of their learning environment .
Having a flexible classroom helps students be their best learning selves and become more invested in their learning. Giving students a choice encourages them to take turns in different locations and with different seating options. It promotes a sense of community, collaboration, and pride that makes them successful third graders.
