In an effort to create welcoming learning spaces, I wanted to expand beyond the physical set up of my classroom. I wanted to use reading resources to show students that their voices and experiences are valuable learning tools. Using these culturally responsive texts during guided reading will give the students the opportunity to have more meaningful dialogue and engagement with the text. This will, in turn, allow students to make better connections with reading concepts like main idea, details, point of view, and other concepts. For those students who are working towards becoming independent readers, they are able to listen to the stories being read aloud on video. This strategically works for both face to face students and virtual students.
About my class
