These books will add to the vocabulary rich classroom that I endeavor to create. The books chosen are relevant to the lives of my students, the hope is that they can see a part of themselves in the stories before them and be encouraged to fully dive into their independent reading! The books present them with interesting and fascinating perspectives that they can all engage with. Students will choose the book they most connect with, as every student will need a book for daily independent reading time.
Many of the students who are entering my 8th grade class are doing so multiple grades below reading level; a classroom library full of relevant and interesting books at different reading levels will allow all students to read independently at their own reading level. The classroom library will also offer books that can challenge and push them beyond their reading level.
The goals of this diverse and dynamic library is to, one create opportunities for adventure within the different literary worlds, and two, to create a genuine and lasting love for reading and learning.
