The various books by Julia Cook in our project are centered around self regulation and social skills. The games, such as Twister and Yahtzee, are imperative to help teach our students social skills such as turn taking and accepting the success of others. Some of the items in our project, such as the Liquid Motion Timer and the Square Dance Scarves, help students to regulate their amygdala so that learning can occur in the prefrontal cortex during instruction.
By being able to get these various items for our classroom, my students will be able to increase their abilities to self regulate and learn social skills that will be invaluable to their futures. In our classroom and our school one of our primary incentives is to help students learn how to regulate their brains so that they are able to be successful not only in school but also in life!
