Kindergarten has changed. It is no longer learning by play. The students are expected to sit for much longer, and pay attention for much longer than they are developmentally prepared for.
LEGOs are a great resource to combat stagnant seat work while still adhering to the objectives at hand. Building promotes creativity. It promotes community when children build together. It also promotes fine motor skill development, which is vital at this age.
When funded, these students will receive not just a box of LEGO bricks. They will receive an opening into a much more developmentally appropriate way of learning. These versatile bricks can be used in all academic areas. They can be used for counting, adding, sorting, word segmentation, blending, and so much more. The students simply think they are playing, but there is so much more going on.
