My students are Kindergarten through grade 2, all with a diagnosis of Autism. Many have secondary diagnoses, many of which relate to sensory needs. We are considered a substantially separate program, which means we are housed in a public school classroom, but do not integrate with their regular-ed peers. Our playground is not fenced in, so unfortunately we cannot take out students outside for safety reasons. Being inside all day every day is very difficult for any little person, never mind those who CRAVE sensory stimulus. We have wonderfully supportive administration, who has made a hallway available for us to have some gross motor movement space, but it is still a daily struggle for the kids.
