There is a growing interest in manga at WEMCHS. Our school utilizes the community college library, but it does not offer manga. Our anime club would like to offer a manga library at the school for students to enjoy reading. Students would be exposed to manga as a new form of media from a different culture.
We have already started collecting donations of manga.
However, the donations that we have received are in the same genre. With sufficient funding, we would be able to grow our small collection into a variety of manga that all WEMCHS students can enjoy.
Benefits for the students:
- Manga enriches students' knowledge of Japanese culture.
- The students will have a collection of manga that belongs to the school.
- Manga would spur students into broadening their horizons and looking at other cultures aside from Japanese and American cultures.
- A collection of manga would motivate students to read more.
- Mangas are easy to read.
- While mangas may have a different structure, they still provide all of the important elements of classic novels that lead people to love them.
- The designers provide captivating illustrations in the manga to enrapture students in a story.
- Manga offers a different form of reading with a culturally diverse point of view.
- Manga covers Common Core English Standards because students analyze plot, character, theme and other literary elements.
