Choice is a powerful thing and when it comes to learning, flexible seating options support an environment that allows students to choose their best fit for achieving. Seating choices like wobble chairs, portable lap desks, and can-do therapy balls will allow these third graders to move, wiggle, and focus.
As we move from independent work to a paired or group activity, students will be able to quickly take their learning spot with them. Each child's comfort level is different and while some students prefer to sit at a table or desk, others would rather sit on the floor with some support and movement. Throughout the day they will have the flexibility to move location in the room and the book bins will act as a mobil library. These colorful tubs will be used during our literacy block and "read to self" time.
This project will optimize flexibility in our classroom work spaces and increase comfort for students as they practice literacy skills. When students have choice in their seating, they are more motivated and their learning stamina increases!
