My classroom, and our school library, have extremely limited and often no resources within the Genres of Utopian and Dystopian societies. 8th grade students are "hungry" for these Genre areas.
We have a current classroom novel study of The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. For the first time this year, I have watched my students engaged in the process of reading like none other. They find the topics of this particular Genre relatable to current world issues, video games they play, and general interest.
In order to engage students within the process of reading, in such a technologically-related society, having book choices they are both interest in and want to read, is of utmost importance in developing this important skill.
