Our students come to school from a variety of background and cultures. Every day, students are choosing "just right" books from our classroom library that they can independently read. How great would be if "just right" books not only are books that they can read independently, but also books that they can see themselves as the characters?
When students see themselves reflected in their curriculum, their engagement in learning increases. Our class would benefit tremendously from having books with characters that reflect their lives. I have seen the powerful impact when students see themselves in the curriculum.
These books will be well loved and cared for by our class! Our titles include Counting on Catherine, Jabari Jumps, I Am Enough, Colour of Home and many more.
