This second grade class is packed with characters: jokers, dreamers, singers, but all of them are hard workers. With seven different language groups represented in this class, we are the definition of diversity. Families from Mexico, El Salvador, Cambodia, China, Samoa, Haiti, Ghana, and the Philippines walk their kids to school everyday through this humble, sometimes impoverished neighborhood in urban Northern California. These kids come to learn. They are committed to their future, they are committed to mastering English, and they flourish and grow in our class. And their parents work right along with them to help them reach their goals. We are a class who believes that learning, dreaming, and working together can be fun, rewarding, and sometimes a little crazy. We have been known to break out the drums and dance, to help our classmates when they cry and go through loss, and to push each other to learn. Together, we work to develop lifelong learners.
