My students need a class set of the book Blood on the River. It is a historical fiction book about Jamestown. Using this novel in a history class setting will allow my students to explore more about the history of Jamestown in a fun, imaginative, creative way. The students will complete activities and discussions on not only the history of Jamestown, but the interactions of the people who lived in that time.
It is important to include cross curricular units so that students can learn that every subject is important and skills from each can help you in other subjects. With this class set of books, students will learn how settings contribute to literature, how the history of Jamestown affected the people who lived there, and practice their reading, inferencing, and text to text connections.
