These books will be a life changing experience for my students! I want to create a "Wonder Book Club" so that students feel a sense of belonging during these challenging times. Instead of being glued to their computers and reading an e-book, I want them to find a quiet place where they can read and forget about their individual circumstances. Students will also be able to listen to the audio and follow along.
My students are low academic readers and most only read when it is a class requirement. When students begin to read for enjoyment, not because they "have to" read, students will continue to practice and enhance reading skills without knowing. I plan on having class discussions, where students will be able to make individual connections to each reading. I will also schedule online class meetings where I will read aloud and students will follow along. As we continue these reading activities in our "book club," students will continue to practice reading skills!
Reading is a life-long skill that will be essential forever! I need to ensure my students continue practicing reading skills in fun, creative ways! I specifically selected this book because it is high interest and students will be able to connect to the main character, Auggie, who is also a 5th grade student! If we are allowed back to campus, I plan to hold a "movie premier" once we finish reading the book!
I am excited and cannot wait for my students to become life-long readers! It only takes one book, one story to make the difference!
Thank you for your time and consideration.
