With these materials, my students will have the opportunity to really take charge of their math learning as they will have multiple resources to rely on and practice with in order to get better. The ten frame cards will be used the first unit that the students are introduced to as a foundation of second grade students must know how to "make ten." Having the large frames for board work will be helpful when we partake in "I Do, You Watch" and "I Do, You Help" work as students will be able to see it right in front of them and then be able to do it with the teacher in order to master the topic on their own.
These second graders will be challenged to tackle every problem presented before them and take their best shot in our Sports Themed Classroom where students will know that winning as a team is the ultimate goal (being third grade ready). The flash cards will help develop the students' fluency skills as they will do "Around the Room Math" almost daily. Other items will be used in center work as students complete their "You Do, I Watch" work showing that they understand the lesson and concepts behind it. The students will truly be grateful to have a plethora of math items to choose from as this is their first year having one teacher solely for math, so I am tasked with making their Math room come alive!
