Our classroom is a little different than what you might see in most Texas classrooms. I teach deaf and hard of hearing students who have a variety of linguistic and educational needs. Some of my students use their voices to communicate, some use their hands, and most use a little of both! We speak as well as sign to learn in my room. We use a combination of spoken English, Signing Exact English, and ASL for support when needed. Our students are hard-working and do their best to meet their goals every day. Their grade levels vary from 2nd to 5th, they have different levels of hearing loss, and they utilize different equipment for amplification (some have none).
I teach Reading and Language Arts where our main goal in class is to develop a love for reading and a passion for learning new things. My students face many different obstacles every day, but they all have one thing in common, they have the ability to learn!
