Flexible seating allows students to sit around the classroom in different ways to complete their work. Studies show that movement helps improve learning. My students have only one recess a day, so flexible seating would allow them to get some of their wiggle worms out.
Flexible seating will create a welcoming, fun, comfortable environment for my third graders to learn in. Flexible seating helps sensory students, gives students exercise while learning, and prevents interruptions from students who get off task. Yoga balls will be great for my learners who always have to be moving. Reading is a big part of my curriculum and having comfy alternatives to read on will spark their interest in reading. We also work in small groups and stations so these seating options will allow students to move to designated spots around my room to complete their work. I mean let's be real...can you sit in one spot all day long and keep your focus?
