Our band room is in need of a quality speaker system. This unit has the capability of pairing with a smartphone, which is a tool that I use constantly in the classroom. Pairing the smartphone to this speaker will allow me to project metronome sounds and tuning pitches at a volume that the band can hear as they play. This will aid the students in their musical development of timing and intonation.
Students develop the best sounds possible on their instruments through hearing and imitating those who have mastered the instrument. The speaker will be used to play recordings of professional musicians and music ensembles as the students enter the band room each day. Hearing professional musicians will allow the students to hear the characteristic sounds of their instruments and wind bands and give them an ideal sound to aim for as they practice and develop their skills.
The speaker and microphone will be used at our concerts. I plan to have students introduce each of the pieces played at our concerts. This gives students a chance to practice their public speaking skills in a safe environment, since the audience is full of people who want the students to be successful. The microphone and speaker will ensure that all members of the audience can hear what the students have to say about the music they are making.
