I am requesting Legos, K'NEX, two types of magnetic building blocks, and a Robotic Mouse for beginning coding. These will be used in morning work centers so my students can start every day using their imagination and creativity. They will be working together with a partner or small group to encourage collaboration and cooperation. The items that I have chosen will give my students the opportunity to develop problem solving skills that will be transferable across all subjects and in real-life situations.
First graders need time to play, to build, create, construct, cooperate, engage, and be persistent.
In our rapidly changing, technological society all kids need exposure to games and activities that will promote elastic, non-linear thinking and problem solving skills. Set with specific challenges, my students will be able to rotate through this variety of STEM activities and expand their thinking on a daily basis.
