My students are entering a brand new school and some of them are brand new to school in general. These Lakeshore Calendars Activity Programs are used for, but not limited to, achieving math skills. One student generally leads the whole group with the assistance of a teacher. In whole group, the students sing songs about the months of the year and the days of the week. They use the multi colored numerals to learn about skip counting, patterns, and ordinal calendar numbers.
Daily exposure to counting, number sense, and place value helps form consistent habits when the children use the calendar in French and in English. The students love to manipulate the calendar and enjoy breaking up into small groups to use the problem solving cards. This routine becomes one of the most anticipated of the morning!
