Imagine a classroom of 27 students. Now imagine each student completing a different task, which may be a hands-on activity, small group instruction with a teacher, partner work, collaboration, or other independent practice through an online forum. Sounds noisy, right? Now imagine being a student attempting to learn a new skill through an instructional video and trying to balance between watching the demonstration and reading the closed captioning. Sounds almost impossible.
Headphones will block out the unnecessary distraction and allow for more focus when using technology. My students need quiet, focused time within the classroom to practice at their level--no matter where that level is. Without the necessary supply of headphones, students are learning very little from the video or practice.
