This project will allow me to provide diverse, high-interest books that my students can connect with; books that serve both as windows AND mirrors. My students often come to my class feeling like reading is not relevant to their current situations. We will use books like, "All American Boys" and "Brown Girl Dreaming" to establish reading habits necessary to succeed as a student and citizen. We will learn to discuss ideas and opinions through civil discourse.
These books can help change the hearts, minds, and lives of my students.
When students share reading experiences in a community, or rather a FAMILY of readers, they learn how to advocate for themselves and the world around them.
