Everyone learns through play, and it is important to a child's development and learning. Children with disabilities understand and discover the world differently from children without disabilities. Using the Big Red adapted switch to operate the Beat-Bo adapted switch toy, student will be increasing their understanding of cause and effect: "If I press this switch, something will happen"—and increase auditory development. By having three different toys to select from, the students will be working on communication, like learning how to match objects to pictures. It gives them an opportunity to make choices, giving them control over their environment.
The donation of accessible toys will let my students with disabilities interact with the world in a way that makes sense. It will enhance their learning while helping to develop a sense of control over their environment and increased self-esteem.
