I am requesting multiple copies of books for a book club during distance learning. In third grade, students are immersed in reading narratives and study setting, characters, lessons and themes, and perspectives. Students develop confidence and gain independence navigating texts with their peers.
Our brick and mortar classrooms are full of multiple copies of books for students to explore in book clubs. The move to a virtual classroom has left my students without these texts to explore with their classmates while they are learning at home. By providing students with physical copies of books, my students will deepen their appreciation and understanding of a common text, and they will have opportunities to extend their thinking as they process and interpret the perspectives and opinions of their peers.
Having a set of books for book clubs will support my students with the materials they need at home to develop a lifelong love of reading through interactive experiences with their peers. By donating to this project, you will be helping provide a more enriching reading experience for my third graders right in their own homes. It will also empower and support families, who are already juggling so much, by having the resources to support their children through this new way of learning.
